 Sporting Clays

Tenoroc's Sporting Clays course is fully automated wih Lincoln traps and Claymate target counters.  Shooters determine which targets are thrown and when by the push of a button.  Individual shooters are easily accommodated through the delay mechanism built into this system.  You will know at a glance how many targets you have shot during your round.

Sporting Clays is a clay target game that simulates actual field hunting and it is shot on specially designed courses that are identical to actual field conditions. Sporting Clays offers a myriad of aerial target presentations with clays flying by at speeds and angles that simulate live birds with unnerving accuracy.

Sporting Clays uses a number of different types of clay targets. Combining different speeds and angles along with the different types and sizes of targets is what makes the game so challenging. The targets might be crossing, climbing, incoming, outgoing, quartering away, streaking high overhead, or any combination of the above. Sporting Clays is indeed a game that truly tests a shotgunner's abilities. Sporting Clays has earned the reputation as being the most fun that you can legally have with a shotgun.

Our Clays course consists of 15 shooting stations offering you the experience of shooting under a variety of conditions resembling wild game hunting, i.e. quail, dove, partridges, ducks, pheasants, rabbits, etc. You will see presentations of outgoing, incoming, low flying, overhead, driven, crossing and quartering targets shot from in fields or woods and over water; the targets may or may not be partly obscured by trees, bushes or other terrain features.

We use the standard trap, skeet and rabbit targets, as well as the thinner (Battue) and smaller diameter (90mm midi or 60 mm mini) targets that are faster. Targets are thrown from either automatic LaPorte traps or manual Lincoln traps singly or in pairs after you get in position and call "Pull."

Our course is set for both the beginner and Master Class tournament shooter, allowing all levels of shooters to have fun breaking targets and increase their level of skill in clay and wing shooting. We change the course periodically to make sure it never gets stale for you. Each squad is accompanied by a Trapper who can offer assistance and advice on each station, further adding to your enjoyment and safety.

You can expect a round of 100 clays to last from 1 ½ to 2 hours, depending upon the number of shooters in your squad. The course is about a half mile walk all told with plenty of benches and shade. A limited number of golf carts are available for rental, and a refreshment cart will periodically drive along the course for your convenience.

We hold NSCA registered tournaments on a regular basis as well as charity fund raisers, corporate events and fun shoots. For a schedule of events, or to schedule an event of your own, please see our Events section of this site.

A round of Sporting Clays normally consists of 100 birds though we do permit half rounds. We will gladly throw as many birds as you desire on any station to make sure you can learn the shot.

WHAT IS 5 STAND?

5 Stand is an abbreviated form of Sporting Clays, providing the same types of target presentations but without the walk. 5 Stand began as a warm up for Sporting Clays shooters and has grown into a challenging and fun game unto itself.

Our 5 Stand is a 30 foot long elevated and covered (allowing you to continue shooting even under our Florida rainstorms) platform with up to six different shooting positions. There are 7 automatic LaPorte traps positioned around the course presenting the targets as incoming, going away (from below your feet and high overhead), left and right crossing, Teal (straight up) and rabbits bouncing along the ground.

Up to 5 shooters can make up a five stand squad. Each shooter will man a shooting position and shoot at a combination of five targets; a Single, Report Pair (second bird is thrown after the sound of the gun report from shooting at the first bird) and True Pair (both birds are thrown at the same time). Once the first shooter has shot at the five birds, the shooter in the adjoining station is presented with a different combination of five birds. Once all five shooters have shot from their beginning station, each rotates to the adjoining station for another 5 target presentations. This will continue until each shooter has shot 5 birds from each of the 5 stations.

With 7 different machines and a slightly different angle on each target depending upon the station, there are over 200 possible target presentations! Once you think you've mastered this course, watch out! We are always changing angles, speeds and distances of the traps changing things up just enough to keep you coming back for more. This is truly a game that will provide continuing enjoyment and increase your clay shooting skills!

Each squad of 5 Stand shooters will have a Trapper who will explain the course, throw the targets for you and ensure your comfort and safety.

A round of 5 Stand normally consists of 25 birds. Most shooters can't stop at just that few, so we have progressively lowered the price of each bird the more you shoot.

    Rules For All Clays Ranges

In addition to the Standard Range Rules for all Tenoroc Shooting Sports and Training Ranges, the following rules apply specifically to the clays ranges:

All guns must be treated as if they are loaded. Keep muzzles pointed safely downrange at all times and keep your finger off the trigger. Make sure of your target and what is beyond it before firing.

Guns may only be loaded once the shooter is in the shooting stand, and any unfired rounds must be unloaded from the gun prior to leaving the stand. When not in the firing stand, the action of your gun must be open.

Guns are limited to 2 rounds at a time. Shot size is limited to #7 ½ and smaller. Any gauge shotgun may be used to shoot as long as your gun is fired from the shoulder.

Eye and ear protection is mandatory.

Each Trapper is a Range Officer who will ensure your safety by enforcing all firearms handling and range safety rules.
